RC Passion Rediscovered

I was 48 years old when the Grasshopper II reignited a passion in me that I have not felt for RC since I was a teenager.

It all came back to me one Saturday afternoon in the summer of 2020. My wife and I made plans to go to dinner with our friends. Sal and his wife Natalie have been our friends for over 25 years. When they arrived at my house Sal was carrying a box.

For some context, the last time Sal and I spoke before this Saturday dinner date I was reminiscing back to June of 1984. I was 12 years old. I saved up money from a paper route, and my weekly allowance to buy my 1st RC (radio controlled) Car. With my money in my pocket I walked to Hobby Hut. My local hobby store on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. Once inside I knew just what I wanted, because I had visited it many times the weeks before. Now finally it will be mine. I pointed behind the counter and said I'll take the Grasshopper.

Fast forward 36 years later to Sal walking in my front door with a box. I had no idea what he was carrying until he made it in my house. There it was the Grasshopper II.

He started to tell me how happy I looked when we were talking about the RC cars I had as a teenager. He handed me the box and said this is for you. I felt like that 12 year old at the counter of Hobby Hut once again.

That is how the RC spark was reignited in me. Now here I am with my friend Sal, many cars later enjoying them with each other, and all of you. Hopefully some of you old guys will feel young again, or maybe some younger kids will find a passion for RC the way Sal and I have.
