Sal’s New Obsession, RC Cars
The car that started it all for Sal was not a car at all, it was a truck. It was the Tamiya Scania R620 Highline. But before we get onto the truck let me tell you something about Sal, the builder.
Sal got started in RC later in life compared to most others. He was always into motorsports. No matter the size of the motor. When he was younger, he raced semi-pro motocross. He also has owned many 1/1 scale exotics, from Porsche to Lotus, and Alfa Romeo to Corvette, old and new. For as long as I can remember Sal has collected diecast cars, many different unique types in a variety of scales. He also would build and collect static models. Mostly 1/12 scale formula one cars from the 1970’s. He lost all those models in October of 2012, when Hurricane Sandy hit New York. After Sandy he had to concentrate on rebuilding his home in Brooklyn before he could get back to his hobbies. After his home was on the mend is when he discovered Lego. He built Lego, and Technic for a few years, and while he was watching a Youtube video about Lego, he came across a video of a Tamiya Scania R620 RC truck. He was a little more than intrigued. So that is when he ordered his 1st RC car kit. It was 2017. It was the Tamiya Scania R620 he saw while searching lego on Youtube. After receiving it, he would spend all his spare time in the next 2 weeks building his new truck. 3 of those days just on the paint job. Around 20+ man hours for completion. That is when he discovered his new passion.
Shortly after that in 2017 he retired from DSNY (Department of Sanitation of New York) where he worked for 22 years driving a street sweeper around Coney Island, and the surrounding neighborhoods. At this time I lived more than an hour drive away from my friend Sal, so I could not enjoy this new experience of RC with him. From 2017 to 2023 he has built hundreds of RC kits from many manufacturers that I could not help him with, because of where we lived. Fast forward to early 2023, my buddy Sal has moved out of Brooklyn to Suffolk County Long Island. Much closer to me. So now we can share our hobby with not only each other but with everyone interested in RC cars through this blog. Also check out our other social media platforms for all different types of content. Hopefully some of you will get enjoyment from our posts. I know we will enjoy it.
