A Review of the Arrma Vorteks

If you are looking for an RTR (ready to run) stadium truck, that is fast, and durable. Then the Arrma Vorteks is worth looking at. It also comes at a very affordable price. Compared to other RTR’s in its class. I bought mine in November of 2021 for 369.99 USD. Today as I am writing this review it is still 369.99 USD.

The Vorteks is a 1/10 scale 4wd stadium truck that takes bashing to a whole new level. I have had mine for about a year and a half now. I drive it every time I take out my RC cars. I am always looking for a new challenging place to drive it. When I drive it, I do not hold back. Mostly I drive it in dirt, and I am not shy about hitting the jumps. Sometimes at full throttle. I have landed the Vorteks on just about every part of the body. U to know I have only cracked the polycarbonate in one spot, and some of the jumps were pretty high.

Let's look at some of the parts that make up the Arrma Vorteks. All the main components are from Spektrum. Starting with the Firma 100A ESC (electronic speed control). Paired with the brushless Firma 3660 motor with 3200 kv. Together they provide more than enough power for fast-track runs and big jumps. The motor also comes equipped with a heatsink and a fan to help keep it cool. The steering servo is Spektrum’s S651, which comes with all metal and brass gears. A good starting servo for this car, but I will think about upgrading it in the future. Finally finishing up the Spektrum parts for the Vorteks are the transmitter, and receiver. The receiver is the SR62000A smart system with AVC (active vehicle control). I am not sure why Arrma chose to put a 6-channel receiver in this car, but I do love the AVC. When dialed in properly you have much more control of the Vorteks. The transmitter is Spektrum’s DX3, 2.4GHz radio. A little more than a basic radio. It is comfortable in your hand and very responsive. There is an optional bluetooth module, the BT2000, you can install to monitor all types of telemetry using Spektrum’s app. All the smart Spektrum parts on the Vorteks can be controlled and adjusted with the optional V2 ESC Programmer, also from Spektrum (see full review with this link).

The chassis is made of a composite material that is strong, and rigid, yet has just enough flex, or give to not break easily. Double wishbone suspension in the front and rear. The shocks are oil filled with 500CST, and silicone O rings. All the bearings in the Vorteks are rubber shielded. The modular design makes getting to and working on this car easy. The pull tab to release the motor mount, and spur gear is a little stiff. The first time you remove it you may have to pry it with a screwdriver, but it gets easier the more you do it. The tires are Katar’s from dBoots. Ihave driven this car mostly on dirt, with the occasional asphalt drive, and the tires still look good after a year and a half.

What you will need to run the Vorteks is 4 AA batteries for the transmitter. You can power the car with either a 2S or 3S LiPo (lithium polymer) battery which is not provided. Arrma boasts a top speed of 60+ MPH on the box, and website. But that is with optimum conditions using the provided speed pinion and a 3S battery. I have not done any speed runs yet, but I plan on doing some soon. I will film it and put it up on my other social media platforms.

Overall, the Vorteks is a high-performance RC truck that is designed for off road racing. A sturdy chassis, high quality components, and excellent performance make it a popular choice for RC enthusiasts and hobbyists. Whether you are looking for your first RC car, or you are a seasoned racer. The Vorteks is a great choice to enjoy many hours of bashing.
