Spektrum Firma Combo Review
The smart technology that Spektrum uses throughout their Firma line of products has made them leaders in the RC industry, since their inception in 2004. Whether it is their top of the line transmitters, down to their entry level ESC (electronic speed control), motor combo that I will talk about in this article. One of the favorite brushless entry level ESC/ motor combos on the market now is, Spektrum 85A smart ESC with a 3300kv motor. Item #SPMXSEMC01. At the time I am writing this, the pair cost $104.99 USD. You can pick them up on Amazon, or Spektrum’s website. The ESC has IC battery connectors making it compatible with IC3, or IC5 batteries. It also works with EC3, and EC5 plugs. There are many programming options, which includes updating through a USB smart link. Additional equipment required is a Smart ESC Programming update box item# SPMXCA200. The ESC is plug N play. Just 2 screws to mount it. Besides having thermal protection, and an automatic low voltage cutoff for LiPo. It uses smart technology for all types of telemetry. This way you can keep track of important data for your RC car, and also tune it to get the most performance you can out of it. For even more possibilities as far as tuning, and telemetry, beyond your ESC/motor combo. Set your RC car up with other Spektrum smart parts such as batteries, receivers, and transmitters. Although it is not necessary to have them all. There are many benefits to having them communicating with each other. Even alone this Esc does work wonderfully. But it does not come alone. It is paired with a Spektrum 3300kv motor. A brushless motor that can run 2s, or 3s LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries. No soldering necessary, it has pre-installed 4mm gold plated bullet connectors. The mounting pattern, and the diameter are the same as the 54o, and 550 brushed motors, which make the 3300kv perfect for upgrades.
So, if you are looking for a cost effective way to upgrade your brushed RC car very easily. I would recommend the Spektrum Firma 85A ESC paired with the 3300kv sensorless motor.
