A Look at the FR4 crawler

The Demon CrossRC’s

FR4 Crawler

I am one of the lucky one who was able to purchase the Cross RC FR4C Demon rock crawler before it was sold out almost everywhere. Cross RC offers this truck as a kit or a RTR (ready to run). I have the kit version. While I am writing this every hobby shop I checked is sold out. Amazon only has 2 left. So I am definitely happy I was able to get one. The main reason the FR4c is sold out in my opinion is because of its value, quality, and performance. The RTR version is not available on Cross RC’s website, but on Amazon it goes for $349.99 USD with only 2 left. The kit which is the one I have is $299.99 at Cross RC, but on backorder. The only kit I could find that was in stock was Amazon for the same price, and only 1 left. Probably gone now. Hopefully more will come in stock soon.

Like I said above, this truck is a great value. A 1/10 scale crawler designed for the serious off road enthusiast who demands the highest level of performance and durability from their RC crawler. Starting from the ground up. The dual stage foam inserts in the tires allow the sidewall to hold strong while letting the tread of the Black Rock tires to still flex and move. Making sure those tires get their power are CNC aluminum axle housing with CVD, for stainless steel cast-metal gears. Next up the suspension, fully adjustable aluminum coil over shocks. The chassis is a C type steel frame ladder chassis, with stiffeners. The drive hex, pivot balls, front & rear driveshafts, transfer case gears, transfer case mount, and transmission guard are all metal.

Now that most of the inside of the truck was covered, let's talk about the outside. The body is clear polycarbonate, for you to paint as you wish. It comes with stickers, and window masks. The front has a chrome looking grille and bumper, with working headlight, and 2 fog lights. Following the chrome theme it has side moldings and door handles with the same look. The spare tire on the rear is a fakey, but still looks great. The tail lights are also functional which is a nice feature. To finish the outside, there is a full roof rack.

The FR4C Demon is a kit so you will have to add some parts to get it crawling. Transmitter, and receiver, 3 channels minimum. I am using my FlySky GT5 with a FS-A3 receiver. The ESC ( electronic speed control) I chose to use is the Hobbywing Quickrun 1060. Last for a steering servo I am using a Futaba S3004. Could I use better quality electronics? Yes, but for crawling at this level I think these parts I chose are more than adequate. Maybe in the future I will upgrade.

Overall the Cross RC FR4c Demon is an amazing truck. It will get through mostly anything with its high ground clearance, and excellent suspension. This truck is so much fun to drive. It surprises me every time I take it out. A lot of the fun is trying to find spaces to get it stuck. I would definitely say the FR4c Demon is worth checking into if you are in the market for a new crawler.
